Jason and Chloe Epstein are active alumni of Tufts University and have a new and growing connection with the Friedman School around one common goal—a passion for eating smart.
That compelled Jason, A96, an investment portfolio manager and Chloe, J96, a former assistant district attorney and now business owner, to make a generous $350,000 pledge to the Friedman School.
It was their passion for healthy eating that in 2010 inspired Chloe and Jason, along with a long-time friend, to launch Chloe’s Fruit, a healthy, clean alternative to frozen yogurt and ice cream made from only fruit, water, and a touch of organic cane sugar. With a flagship store in New York City, the company also developed Chloe’s Fruit Pops from their original three-ingredient soft serve fruit mix, now sold in more than 10,000 supermarkets nationwide.
“We are focused not only on offering clean alternatives to everyday snacking, but also on raising awareness about the importance of eating smart and involving our children in the discussion,” explains Chloe. “We are continually working on ways to make our healthy products more accessible and are particularly focused on adding them to school and camp menus.”
"Deciding to get formally involved became an obvious, meaningful, and rewarding way to contribute."
Chloe and Jason have been committed Tufts alumni; Jason serves on the Board of Advisors for the School of Arts and Sciences, and both are members of the executive committee of the university Campaign Cabinet. Through their involvement, they learned a little about the latest initiatives at the Friedman School. “We were curious and wanted to know more,” Chloe says. “Our interest piqued when we saw a presentation at a Tufts Talks alumni event in New York this year. We were inspired and impressed with all the exciting work that is going on at the Friedman School. Deciding to get formally involved became an obvious, meaningful, and rewarding way to contribute.”
Dariush Mozaffarian, dean of the Friedman School and Jean Mayer Professor in Nutrition, agrees. “This is a wonderful gift. We feel grateful and lucky for the Epstein’s support, which is helping to advance important priorities like our entrepreneurship initiative. Tufts alumni are setting the bar high in innovation and entrepreneurship. We look forward to a continued collaboration with passionate leaders like Chloe and Jason to move nutrition forward.”
